New Mortal Kombat Movie

WOW, it's been awhile. I checked out the new Mortal Kombat movie on opening night as I was STARVED for something to see in theatres. It doesn't carry any notable cast members, in fact Josh Lawson, who plays Kano, was about the only person I could name, but I did recognize the actors who play Scorpion and Raiden. The film doesn't waste time with plot, or character development much, which is ideal. It brings back the gore and violence that fans of the series have been longing for on the big screen adaptations. There's a healthy amount of fighting and gore, so it's not a film for children. There is a spin on the original in that the blood feud of Scorpion and Sub-Zero in fact goes back to the 17th century. I was impressed with the CGI, as they clearly spent the budget wisely on making sure nothing looked like garbage. If that's what sacrificed the budget to grab a few "name brand" actors, I'm all for it, as this cast did just fine. Overall this is definitely worth seeing, especially since it's free on HBO Max. It's particularly fun to fast forward through most of it and only watch the fight scenes, as that only takes about 25 minutes... Overall- 7.8 out of 10. Does it's job admirably and efficiently. It's not winning any Oscars, but you'll be entertained.
